Why not Home?
Less than 1% of women in the US have give birth at home. However, that number is increasing. There is a slowly rising voice that questions our current system of medicalized birth that has taken the experience from it's origins as a rite of passage rooted firmly in the realm of home and family.
A feature length documentary currently in production, "Why not Home" gives voice to the story of doctors, certified nurse midwives, and registered nurses who attend birth in the hospital but chose to have their own children at home. Is it safe? What are the risks? What did these women gained and lost when you make a choice outside the current system? Who gets to make that choice?
